Billy Joel to Conclude Monthly Residency at Madison Square Garden in 2024
After performing once a month at Madison Square Garden for the past decade, singer-songwriter Billy Joel has announced that he will conclude his monthly residency at the venue in July 2024. Joel will perform his 150th lifetime show at the Garden, marking the end of a record-breaking residency that began in January 2014. Despite the fact that his team tells him they could continue to sell tickets, Joel says, « 10 years, 150 shows – all right already! »
Joel broke his own record of the « most consecutive performances by any artist » in January 2015 with the 13th show of the residency, and he broke another record for the « most lifetime performances by any artist » in July 2015. Both of Joel’s banners continue to hang at the Garden. New York City mayor Eric Adams says, « There’s only one thing that’s more New York than Billy Joel – and that’s a Billy Joel concert at MSG. »
