The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is equipped with all-wheel drive as standard in all equipment variants. Mazda’s i-Activ all-wheel drive system is a fully automatic all-wheel drive system that continuously monitors cornering forces, weight transfer and acceleration while driving. The powertrain can shift engine torque to skidding wheels to provide a near-instant response to driver input.
Mazda dropped its “Zoom, Zoom” tagline back in 2015, around the same time that the brand’s SkyActiv technology came into play. But then again, Mazda cars have never lost their sporty touch. The Mazda CX-5 first debuted in 2012 and immediately won the Japan Car of The Year award, an impressive feat for a first-generation crossover.
The second generation CX-5 came in 2016 on the same platform as the previous model and has received a few facelifts over the years. Rumors of a brand new third-generation Mazda CX-5 waiting in the wings are ripe. Still, the current model has its final hurray by adding a few more styling updates, improved mechanics, better refinement, and relentless traction with its standard all-wheel drive.
It may be difficult to see the styling changes at first glance, but the 2022 Mazda CX-5 has a slightly redesigned bezel with a new three-dimensional front grille, new design alloy wheels and new headlights with eye-catching rectangular LEDs -To shine. At the same time, the rear lights have horizontally arranged, rectangular LED light clusters that match the slim front section.
In addition, the expiring CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve returns as a 2.5 Turbo model for 2022. It has glossy black exterior panels and a striking red interior with high quality stitching. In addition, the brand new CX-5 Turbo 2.5 comes standard with nappa leather, shiny silver light alloy wheels and real wood interior panels.
But Mazda didn’t stop there. The 2022 CX-5 features updated ride modes, new seats, a stiffer frame and newly configured suspension to improve handling and ride quality. Mazda also tinkered with the six-speed automatic transmission SkyActiv and promised a better response to gas inputs and smoother acceleration.
The CX-5 is Mazda’s best-selling car in America and remains the gold standard for an affordable, comfortable, and sporty-driving crossover. This winter, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 arrives at US dealerships, with prices set to follow near the launch date. Mazda didn’t mention any powertrain changes for the 2022 CX-5, so we’re assuming the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-banger and the 250-horsepower 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder will remain.
