CM – â € œA shameâ €: PMâ € ™ s $ 2b Victoria insult

Scott Morrison was lashed down over the Victorian lockdown after it was discovered that NSW was tacitly allowed to pocket more government money despite fewer lockdowns.

Scott Morrison has been charged with « missing in action » over the Victorian lockdown by allowing his home state, New South Wales, to silently pocket more JobKeeper cash despite fewer lockouts.

Despite the Morrison administration’s constant reluctance to say that Victoria received « by far the highest economic support per capita for any state or territory, » the Prime Minister seldom notes that NSW received more wage subsidies than Victoria in US dollars.

A breakdown of JobKeeper spending by state confirms that NSW received $ 30 billion in wage subsidies during the life of the program until it was discontinued last year.

Despite more than 100 days of lockdown, Victoria secured $ 28.1 billion in JobKeeper payments – a deficit of nearly $ 2 billion compared to NSW.

Because the design of the original JobKeeper program made no distinction between companies that could trade during a pandemic downturn and those that were not allowed to trade under Melbourne’s tough lockdown, Victoria received the same handout as other intergovernmental companies that did during the Could trade downturns.

With Victoria now facing the fourth lockdown and the cancellation of the JobKeeper program, casual workers who have lost a quarter of their monthly wages without warning will not be offered assistance from the Morrison government.

Victorian treasurer Tim Pallas told news.com.au it was a shame that casual workers were asked to lose a week’s wages without compensation.

« When JobKeeper was first announced, the Commonwealth was ready to provide double the amount of money they actually needed before they found they had a billing error. Now they will not tune in for even a week to help Victorian workers, » said Mr. Pallas said.

« Victorian workers make sacrifices to protect the community as we await the introduction of the vaccine and an alternative quarantine system. »

While the Victorian government has announced a $ 250 million business support package, Pallas said only the Commonwealth has the income-relief distribution mechanism through the ATO and the welfare system.

« The Commonwealth has a direct link with workers and can provide direct support. They cannot simply be absent from action when Victorian workers need them most, » he said.

Labor Treasury Department spokesman Jim Chalmers said the Morrison administration said the numbers underscore the fact that the Prime Minister has been too quick to rule out support for workers and small businesses who are having a hard time and too slow to to introduce vaccines and set up quarantine.

« The Victorians are paying the price again for these mistakes, but instead of helping Scott Morrison and Josh Frydenberg, they let the Victorians down again, » said Dr. Chalmers opposite news.com.au.

« All the Morrison administration has offered banned Victorians are the same hollow words from the same hollow men.

Dr. Chalmers said JobKeeper – which has since been deleted – and other support needed to respond to the economic situation that small businesses and communities are facing.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister reiterated that Victorian workers should not receive special cash expenditures as they were not made available during brief lockdowns in WA and Queensland.

« The Commonwealth government has invested $ 45 billion directly in Victoria to support them. And we will continue to support Victoria through pandemic leave payments, cash emergency aid and the JobSeeker-backed social security system, » said Morrison.

« I note that the Queensland and Western Australian governments, in similar circumstances, have taken that responsibility after they decided to issue these bans and have accepted that responsibility, and I recommend them to do so. We will continue. » Assist Victoria in opening up Victoria and doing everything possible to ensure that Victoria does not close again. And here I’m pretty sure people all over Victoria want us to focus.  »
