CM – Active Covid-19 cases continue to decline

(UPDATED) The number of active coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the country continued to decline in 2019 as the Department of Health (DOH) reported time-based recoveries for the fifth consecutive year on Thursday, April 22, 2021. New infections also fell below 10,000 for the fourth straight day, but deaths topped 100 for the second straight day.

Thursday’s DOH case bulletin listed 8,767 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative case number to 971,049. There were 105 additional deaths, fewer than the previous day’s 124 but still more than 100 in one day. This brought the death toll to 16,370. The death rate remained at 1.69 percent. With the DOH now applying its time-based recovery scheme daily instead of weekly, there were 17,138 new recoveries. This increased the total recovery to 846,691 or 87.2 percent of the cumulative number of cases. The number of active cases was further reduced to 107,988, which is 11.1 percent of the total. The number of active cases declined by 95,722, or around 47 percent, from a record high of 203,710 on April 17 in just five days due to the time-based tagging method. According to this scheme, coronavirus-positive people without Covid-19 symptoms are declared clinically recovered for more than 14 consecutive days.
