It’s going to be a summer without Chris Harrison on ABC as the longtime face of the Bachelor franchise will sit out in the upcoming seventh season of Bachelor in Paradise.

According to our sister site Variety, Harrison is going through a rotating in season 7 Replaced list of celebrity guests, reportedly including comedian David Spade. The new Bachelor in Paradise season (premiered Monday, August 16) immediately follows season 17 of The Bachelorette (premiered Monday, June 7), which will be hosted by franchise alums Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams instead of Harrison. A Warner Bros. TV spokesman declined to comment on Harrison’s Bachelor in Paradise fate. When the show’s return date was announced in April, an ABC spokesperson simply said, “We’ll provide more details about Bachelor in Paradise at a later date.” Harrison’s guest appearance as the Bachelor franchise host was back in February at risk when photos of then Bachelor candidate Rachael Kirkconnell surfaced on social media at an antebellum party. Harrison initially defended Kirkconnell’s appearance at the party, despite maintaining racial stereotypes, then went back to his comments and opted to sit out the rest of that Bachelor season with Matt James.

But despite his upcoming absences from The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise, Harrison hinted in a Good Morning America interview in March that he was hoping to make a long-term return to the franchise.

« I’m an imperfect man. I made a mistake and it’s mine, « he said to Michael Strahan at the time. » I believe that this mistake does not reflect who I am or what I stand for. I am committed to progress – not just for myself but also for the franchise. ”

After Harrison revealed he was working with a racial educator and strategist alongside faith leaders and scholars, he determined if he was the right person to take on the bachelor’s franchise in the future and added, be back. This interview is not the finish line. There is still a lot to be done and I am excited to be part of this change. «
