BERLIN: RB Leipzig head coach Jesse Marsch said his team may not be ready to play Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday after being beaten at home by Bayern Munich.

Leipzig, last year’s runner-up in the Bundesliga, lost three of their first four league games after their 4-1 home defeat against Bayern on Saturday.

Marsch took over Leipzig this season after Julian Nagelsmann left Bayern, but the Americans have to pick up their team for their first Champions League game from defending Premier League champions Man City on Wednesday.

« It hurts us, » admitted Marsch, who said the defeat against Bayern was a « big one. » Defeat « and a » tough moment for the group « .

» Maybe it’s not fair that we now have such big tests as against Bayern and away at Manchester.

« Maybe we are up for such big challenges not armed, « added Marsch h inzu, who quickly changed course, « but whatever, we have to stay strong and believe in the process. »

However, you will have a lot of work to get to the round of 16 this season in a group that includes City , Lionel Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain and Brugge.

The 47-year-old Marsch came from sister club RB Salzburg and inherited a team that lost both central defenders – Dayot Upamecano to Bayern and Ibrahima Konate to Liverpool – in the summer.

« We trust the learning process and the coach, who does a great job, » emphasized midfielder Kevin Kampl.
