A Democratic Senator questioned the timing of last week’s fiery speech by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, in which Republicans were devastated over negotiations to raise the national debt ceiling, which shuddered Senator Joe Manchin and the GOP – Legislators angry.

Schumer attacked Republicans in a speech in the Senate last Thursday for « playing a dangerous and risky party game » after 11 GOP Senators stood with all 50 Democrats to open the debate and make a short-term increase in the nation’s credit limit.

Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) told Fox News Sunday that he understood the Democratic leader’s frustration with the process, but the timing of his comments  » may not have been the best « .

» Honestly, I agree with the reasons Senator Schumer was so frustrated that this stalemate over the Debt ceiling was risky, unnecessary, a made-up crisis, « Coons told presenter Chris Wallace.

» But Senator Manchin held his head partly in his hands because he believed our leaders should speak directly to one another . And we all agree that we need more stability in our Congress and our country, « the Senator continued.

» Although I fully understand President Schumer’s deep frustration, the timing may not have been the best Coons said.

Manchin was known to be caught on video holding his face in his hands when Schumer spoke before leaving.

« I didn’t think it was appropriate at this point, » Manchin said moments later. “We have to disarm the weapons. You can’t do politics. Neither of us can do that – on both sides. The courtesy is gone. ”

Schumer’s comments outraged Republicans, including Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, who said Republicans would not join Democrats to raise the debt ceiling if the vote is taken again in December.

« Last night the Republicans filled the leadership vacuum that has troubled the Senate since January. I am writing to inform you that if your purely democratic government gets into another preventable crisis, « McConnell wrote in a letter to President Biden on Friday.

» Last night Senator Schumer exploded in a bizarre spectacle in such a partisan, angry and caustic swear word that even democratic senators were visibly embarrassed by him and for him. That tantrum has encapsulated and escalated a pattern of furious incompetence from Senator Schumer, ”wrote McConnell.
