Target announced on Monday, August 23rd, that it will be opening more Disney stores in its stores over the coming Christmas holidays. The retail company plans to triple the number of stores the brand has in its stores, it said.
According to CNBC, Target started opening Disney stores at some of its locations in 2019. It has around 1,900 stores in the US and select stores already have the Walt Disney stores.
Target will expand its collaboration with Disney by opening more than 100 of its outlets for Disney merchandise, toys, and costumes adds more. It was mentioned that at least 160 Target stores will have new Disney stores by the end of the year as the company prepares for the holidays and anticipates a surge in demand.
With the Minneapolis-based retailer’s recent collaboration with Headquarters in Minnesota with other retailers, observers said it is somehow turning its stores into mini-malls. This is because shoppers can now buy a variety of products and also from different brands in the Target stores.
For example, they can drink their favorite Starbucks drink, buy medication or schedule a vaccination against COVID-19, Apple- Buy gadgets or shop for their new Levi’s jeans after buying their groceries or housewares from Target. Or shoppers just pop into the branded stores even when they’re not shopping for groceries.
As mentioned, Target is adding the Disney stores before the holidays as parents are expected to have toys and character items for theirs during the season Children buy to celebrate. Shoppers can now find popular Disney items like Star Wars toys and merchandise in more destinations.
As Target continues to open Disney stores, Walt Disney is closing many of its locations this year. USA Today reported that the company announced in March that it would close 60 stores in North America and that the first round of closings will begin in September.
While Disney has not officially released the list of stores it will close , USA Today created a list based on a store search tool. It identified which will close on or before September 15, and locations include Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington.
