Former Manchester United captain Eric Cantona has assisted current manager Ole Solskjaer (left) to lead the club to the Premier League title (David Kendall / PA).
From PA Sport Staff
Eric Cantona has supported former teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to put what he has learned from Sir Alex Ferguson to good use and to lead Manchester United to another Premier League title.
The Frenchman, who won the league four times in his four and a half years at Old Trafford in the 1990s – including two doubles – is convinced that Solskjaer, like Pep Guardiola under Johan Cruyff in Barcelona, learned what he needed from the Scot after his playing days he will pose a serious challenge for the Spanish team at Manchester City.
Cantona told Sky Sports News: « It is important to win all kinds of trophies and United still have the Ch ance to win the league – but a small chance. «

“But in the near future I hope they can win the league next year. Now they have found someone like Ole who was a player when Alex Ferguson was manager – like Guardiola a player when Johan Cruyff was Barcelona manager.
“He learned a lot with Johan Cruyff and became a great manager with the same kind of football identity, the philosophy of football.
“Ole was a player when Alex Ferguson was there and he learned a lot. He was lucky enough to play with Alex Ferguson – like me, but I chose something different and other players too.
« Ole decided to be a manager. I think it’s great to be a manager today who knows the identity of this club, the philosophy and the DNA.
« He has the DNA of this club and he learned a lot with Alex Ferguson. I can’t wait for United to win the league again – and it will soon be. «
Second-placed United, who haven’t won the league since 2013, are currently 10 points behind leaders City with four games left. The more realistic chance of a trophy this season offers the Europa League final against Villarreal on May 26.
The club – or at least its property – is off the field after the role it played in the debacle in the European super League before a new battle of hearts and minds.
A devastating Cantona said: « We’ve heard for 20 years that some rich clubs wanted to build this league and it’s incredible that in 20 years none of could foresee the reaction of the fans and not inform anyone. «

Manchester United fans have hosted a series of protests against the club’s owners, the Glazer family (Barrington Coombs / PA).
“It is unbelievable that in 20 years all boys up to the age of 30 or 35 would go to school. So they are very smart, intelligent and none of them could foresee the reaction of the fans.
« Now all you have to do is apologize because you realize now that it was just a stupid idea and you had to respect the fans.
« Sometimes it is good that something like that happens and you build something different and stronger out of it. I am very optimistic. I hope you may use this moment a lot to give the fans more strength. »
He added: « This is how Manchester United built this club. In the bad moments, tragedies and successes, always try to unite the people and use every moment of history to build this club even stronger. “
