Former Make-A-Wish Iowa CEO pleaded guilty to misappropriating tens of thousands of dollars to help sick and dying children.
Jennifer Woodley gave the unauthorized use in a written admission of guilt last week a credit card for the month-long theft that began in the summer of 2019.
Woodley, 40, who became president of the Iowa Chapter in August 2019, also admitted being given unapproved bonuses and raises, and false entries in the Having made foundation records to cover these expenses.
She pleaded guilty to two crimes of first degree theft and one of fraudulent practices, all crimes. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors recommend a five-year suspended sentence, with fines and reparations to be determined. Woodley’s attorney Nicholas Sarcone said he would ask for a postponement if convicted. If granted, it means the case will be struck off her record while Woodley completes her parole and other parts of her sentence.
Two months after Woodley became CEO of the organization, she was granting herself a bonus of, according to the criminal complaint $ 10,000 that was not approved by the group’s board of directors.
She also used the organization’s credit card to spend $ 23,000 on herself over a 10-month period without reimbursing the group, it said in the billing document.
