CM – Football bet of the day: don’t expect Düsseldorf to be demolished

We're starting the week in Germany and our Bundesliga expert Kevin Hatchard believes the hosts could sit out against Latvia.

We are starting the week in Germany and our Bundesliga expert Kevin Hatchard believes that the hosts could suspend against Latvia.

« Germany has not impressed for a long time, and in the last World Cup qualifying Latvia showed that they can be an unpleasant opponent. »

Romelu Lukaku delivered for the Red Devils of Belgium last night, but Croatia were the real devils for our buddy Tobias, as their failure in a 1-0 defeat nullified his BTTS bet.

We’re also going to start the week with some international promotions. Germany are up against Latvia, and I’m not sure if the market is right in terms of the relative strengths of the two sides.

Germany goes into Euro 2020 with big question marks, and the upcoming departure of national coach Joachim Löw can’t come early enough for some fans. Although the World Cup winner made sense to bring Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels back into his squad after an unnecessary absence, there is little belief that he knows his best line-up and best starting XI.

The sensible and pragmatic decision would be to become one Back four to return and ask Bayern superstar Joshua Kimmich to take one for the team and play on the right side but that seems unlikely at the moment. Kimmich’s regular midfield partner Leon Goretzka is currently injured and is expected to miss the first Group F game against France.

Germany was deeply inconspicuous in the last World Cup qualification. A 3-0 win against a weak Icelandic team flattered them, they defeated Romania 1-0 and then lost at home to North Macedonia. There were known problems in the first warm-up game for Euro 2020, a 1-1 draw against Denmark. Germany lacked a clinical advantage in front of goal, moved the ball too slowly and gave away a goal with a chaotic defense.

Löw has only scored five wins in the last 12 games, since 2019 there has not been a German win by more than three goals. Latvia will of course be quite courteous opponents in Düsseldorf, but the Netherlands only lost 2-0 in qualifying for the World Cup and they kept Turkey 3-3 in a draw. You haven’t lost a game more than three goals since Austria beat Austria 6-0 in September 2019.

Germany will be aware of injuries before the big kick-off, so they will not play in top form, and this is currently not a team that is going to attack. I’m giving Latvia a three and a half goal start at the Asian Handicap here at 2.0421 / 20, which means we only lose if Germany wins by four or more goals.
