CM – Former trade union minister and RLD boss Ajit Singh dies of COVID-19

The family said in a statement that Singh, the son of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, was diagnosed positive for COVID-19 on April 20th.

NEW DELHI: Former trade union minister and head of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Ajit Singh, died on Thursday fighting Covid.

Ajit Singh, son of former Prime Minister Charan Singh, was Diagnosed with Covid on April 20, his son Jayant Chaudhary was informed about Twiiter. « He fought his condition to the end and took his last breath this morning, » said Jayant.

Ajit Singh, an IIT alumni, was a seven-time MP and trade union minister in the governments of VP Singh, PV Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh.

He left the computer industry to return to India and join politics. He represented the family’s Baghpat pocket district in the lower house of parliament. His party RLD exerts influence on the Jat-dominated western Uttar Pradesh.

Ajit Singh became a member of Rajya Sabha in 1986. During his political journey, he allied himself with major parties such as the BJP, Congress and the Samajwadi Party. Ajit Singh founded the RLD and joined the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government as Minister of Agriculture in 2001. Until May 2003 he was part of the government of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He later joined the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) after forming an alliance with the government Congregation Polling Congress in Uttar Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the death of Rashtriya Lok Dal’s leader, Ajit Singh , and said the former union minister is always committed to the wellbeing of farmers.

BJP President JP Nadda condoled Singh’s death and said he had always served the people throughout his long career in politics.
