On this day, exactly 232 years ago, France experienced a turning point in its history with the storming of the Bastille. To commemorate this historic moment, which is celebrated and celebrated every year on July 14th, a national holiday in France, WorldTempus honors France with a selection of watches from French brands (or of French origin) in the colors of the tricolor.

With over 10,000 km of coastline bordering some of the largest bodies of water on earth (the Mediterranean, North Sea and Atlantic), France is both a maritime and continental empire. Paying homage to maritime history, this Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver in bronze references the material of traditional nautical equipment, and its red dial offers a patriotic hue to complement the day’s celebrations.

The Louis Vuitton Spin Time is the house’s emblematic (and unusual) way of telling the time, with rotating blocks on the periphery of the dial that spin to indicate the hour. Instead of the familiar hour blocks, the Tambour Spin Time Air Vivienne offers 12 miniature sculptures of the mascot of Louis Vuitton, which was first unveiled in 2017. If you miss the spectacle of a military parade this year, will you instead enjoy a parade of 12 mini viviennes as it shows the hours of the day?

If one watch is not enough to express your undying love for France, how about it with three clocks? The Hermès Arceau Cavales and Arceau Casaque are a red, white and blue trio of timepieces that evoke the aesthetic features of this French house steeped in history, from the horse-like dial motif with graphic, curved lines to the repeating chevrons on the red and blue models .

The Cartier Ballon Bleu de Cartier is a subtle celebration of French colors with its deep red alligator leather strap, blued hands and white dial. With its row of sparkling diamonds and the beautiful round shape that ties the crown into the bezel, it’s not only the perfect timepiece for celebrating a national day, but also classic enough to be worn and cherished every day.

French style isn’t always about classic elegance and Parisian chic. RALF TECH is a French watch brand founded in 1996 by professional diver Frank Huyghe. For almost two decades, the brand has been presenting robust, sporty timepieces that feel equally at home while grilling or in the depths of the ocean. What better way to celebrate July 14th than supporting a young, local watch brand?

The Van Cleef & Arpels logo features the Vendôme column, an ode to the nation’s Napoleonic glory that has been going on ever since in the eyes of luxury lovers around the world is indelibly associated with the home of this watch and jewelry company. Slightly less militaristic is another icon by Van Cleef & Arpels, the Alhambra, which is inspired by the four-leaf clover and the traditional Moorish quatrefoil, a motif with compound associations that corresponds to France’s rich multicultural heritage.

No other brand represents the spirit of French haute couture as Chanel. To celebrate the day in typical Parisian style, strap on the Chanel Boy.Friend TweedArt, which recreates the textures and colors of Chanel tweed in everlasting enamel. Traditional in its references, contemporary in its execution – the ultimate chic of the 21st century.
