FATORDA: Indian Super League (ISL) club, Goa FC, announced Thursday that the club’s overseas contingent, including head coach Juan Ferrando and overseas staff, have been adversely affected due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis was asked to return home immediately.

This is a preventative measure given recent policies in Europe and other countries regarding travelers from India as the nation battles the second wave of COVID-19 that has struck the country.

« While the AFC Champions League remains an important competition for Goa FC, the club management felt that the well-being of the players was their first and foremost responsibility. We will ensure this also in the coming days, » said Goa FC in an official statement.

« In a season like no other, we would like to thank all the players for their efforts this season. We wish everyone a safe health « He added.

Earlier this week, Ferrando sounded disappointed when the team conceded a goal for Al Rayyan SC in Group E of the ongoing AFC Champions League in Goa » at the last minute « .

The Gaurs were excruciatingly close to becoming the first Indian club to win the AFC Champions League when they took the lead in the third minute and conceded a goal in the 89th minute after the 1-1 final cashed in.

« It’s difficult when you lose at the last minute. But the truth is that we are playing against very good teams. It is a pleasure to play against Persepolis, Al Wahda and Al Rayyan, « AIFF quoted Ferrando.

» It was a very important game because the situation in India is very difficult at the moment. We thought if we win it will be a good moment for the Indian people because it is very difficult for the players at the moment. They talked about playing for India because I know about the difficult moments. But we admitted at the last moment. This is soccer, « he added.

The Gaurs currently have three points from five games, with their final game scheduled for Friday against Al Wahda FSCC.
