CM – Harvey, Rahal at odds after Texas Race 1

The opening act for the double header of the NTT IndyCar Series at Texas Motor Speedway showed a dominant performance by race winner Scott Dixon. However, much of the late-night drama for Genesys 300 on Saturday night was provided by Jack Harvey.

The 28-year-old Briton continued his strong start to the 2021 season with an eye on a possible top 5 run before he finally settled for seventh place. To determine the scene where it all went undone, it began with the final restart on lap 174 of 212. There Harvey sat in sixth place, and although he landed on the rear wing of Colton Herta’s Andretti Autosport Honda No. 26, it was also had a mirror full of the charging No. 15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda by Graham Rahal.

On lap 176, Harvey exited turn 2 and tried to hold Rahal back by making an aggressive jump into the bottom Track made to bring the preferred line into Turn 3. Despite his best efforts, Rahal was undeterred and pushed his momentum down even further than Harvey’s defense, which even goes just under the white line and onto the apron of the back straight to complete the pass for the Meyer Shank Racing No. 60 Honda .

Although the situation has been reviewed by IndyCar Race Control, no action has been taken regarding a penalty.

The move proved crucial as Rahal methodically marched into fifth place while Harvey drove to a reasonable top 10 result.

For Rahal, who was positive about the team’s result after the 13th start, was also displeased with Harvey about her fight on the track.

« I have a lot of respect for Jack, but we have to talk about it man to man » said Rahal, the 2016 Texas winner. “He could see that the run I was having was enormous and we wanted to go by. You just don’t have to risk anyone like that.

“And it hurt him more too. It kills your swing. The best thing you can do is lift a little and get in line. I understand he did the same to Alex (Rossi) on the front straight so we need to discuss this. I respect him very much, but we definitely need to talk about it. “

With the XPEL 375 for Sunday afternoon (4:00 p.m. CT on NBCSN), Rahal was convinced that the two had to talk before taking the green flag.

» We have to go into the next 12 Talk about it for hours, « added Rahal. “I think race control must also, because how is that not punished? Let’s face it, this is what they teach us: you can’t move in response, especially at 225 mph. «

The Harvey-Rossi incident that Rahal was referring to was also moments after the final restart. Harvey took over that challenging moment after watching a replay, admitting he drove Rossi through the dogleg of the 1.5-mile super speedway had hit the grass due to a problem with his shift lights. Harvey admitted that his immediate goal was to find Rossi and apologize after the race. </ However, Harvey disagreed about the situation with Raha, claiming that he was in the position – and had the right – to hold his own before Rahal's attack.

« I felt like if we could only survive the storm we’d be in a good place to hold people back, « Harvey said to RACER. » Obviously I reacted first. I think I can go downstairs. If the stewards have something they want to say about it, how much space we give It’s not like we rubbed the wheels down and he just stuck on it or something. I mean, Graham knows where the trailer is. He can come and talk to me anytime.

« You know, he’s also a guy I’ve ridden pretty well with a couple of times, so I don’t have any issues with these guys. I don’t know – sometimes feel I am either like me or like the team. There are people who still see us as part-time jobs in small teams and think that they can do anything anytime. It’s not that we’re not actively trying to change that, but if we feel a good result is available, then willy-nilly should I let it all happen as soon as someone sticks their nose in?

« I guess if you’ve been in IndyCar the whole time, if you have Asking someone up and down the pit lane, I think I’m very fair. If anything, it could be more aggressive at times. And once I try to be more aggressive, people have something to say. You know, you can never win this fight. At the end of the day, I just want to bring this car home in one piece. “

Harvey will start fifth in the second race in Texas on Sunday. The line-up was determined by the participants after the rain of yesterday’s qualifying, which would have determined the starting line-up for both races. Rahal starts ninth.
