Netflix released the first picture of the British actor in the role of Queen Elizabeth II for The Crown on Friday.
Staunton, who played Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter films, will take over for the last two seasons of the royal drama to succeed Olivia Colman and Claire Foy.
Staunton, 65, is shown with the monarch’s signature hairstyle, wearing a yellow dress and clutching a handbag.
Season 4 ended with Princess Diana ( Emma Corrin) looked very unhappy in her marriage to Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) despite the Queen’s (Colman) best efforts to keep them together.
The couple’s divorce is expected to see final seasons of the show as well as the deaths of Diana the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret, the Queen’s sister.
Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki will take on Corrin as Diana, while Dominic West will play Charles.
Game of Thrones actor Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip, who will succeed Tobias Menzies, while Lesley Manville will follow in the footsteps of Helena Bonham Carter as Margaret.
Earlier this month, the fourth season cast was Emmy-nominated showered, including one for Outstanding Drama Series.
