CM – How to watch the Film Independent Spirit Awards

The 2021 Film Independent Spirit Awards are finally around the corner after the nominations were announced three months ago and the ceremony takes place just days before the Academy Awards. This year, the Spirit Awards will not take place at noon in a hangar in Santa Monica, but will be broadcast live on Thursday April 22nd at 7:00 p.m. on IFC PT / 10:00 PM ET. In addition to the linear broadcast, the Spirit Awards will also be broadcast on AMC at the same time. Once broadcast, the full awards ceremony will be made available on request on AMC and IFC platforms from Friday, April 23rd. This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Saturday Night Love comedian Melissa Villaseñor.

If you’re a cordless cable cutter, you can watch IFC live on one of these streaming services. Many of them offer free trials: Philo, fuboTV, Sling TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV and the IFC app.

Last year’s Spirit Awards were dominated by « Uncut Gems » who won the awards for the Best Actor (Adam Sandler), Best Director (Josh and Benny Safdie) and Best Editing. Lulu Wang’s « The Farewell » was named best feature film. The award for leading actress was given to « Judy » star Renée Zellweger, who subsequently won the Oscar for best actress.

This year’s most nominated film is « Never Seldom Sometimes Always », which received a total of seven nominations. « Minari » is also at the top with six nominations, while « Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom » and « Nomadland » each received five nominations. Netflix was the most nominated studio with 16 nominations, followed by Focus Features with 10 and A24 with nine.
