Impact fashion designer and founder of Sami Miro Vintage, Sami Miró, partnered with Samsung to bring us the SMV x Galaxy Watch4 collection. At Unpacked, Samsung introduced consumers to the Galaxy Watch4 Classic and Galaxy Watch4 as tools to better understand their health, but with the help of Miro, they can now be both sustainable and stylish. According to the press release, sent exclusively to ESSENCE, the collection is “inspired by the beauty and colors of Mother Earth to remind you to prioritize mindfulness, health, wellness and sustainability every day,” which is in line with Miro’s mission, people to do it to remember that it is possible to respect the earth and be fashionable at the same time.
« We now know more than ever that our consumers are looking for smartwatches that not only have more features and functions, but a device that is super stylish and unique to them, » said Oby Eniya, Marketing Communications Director at Samsung, opposite ESSENCE. “It was very important for us to incorporate this into the new line, and it shows because the Watch4 series is a completely new edition of our smartwatch portfolio and we have taken these needs and preferences into account. These smartwatches are perfect for anyone who really wants to take care of their health and well-being while maintaining their personal style. ”
Eniya continued to explain the Galaxy for the Planet initiative in light of the collaboration. Samsung has committed to specific measures, including eliminating all plastic in cell phone packaging and achieving zero landfill waste by 2025. “We will continue to incorporate recycled materials into all of our new mobile products by 2025 as well. As you can see, we are very committed to a more sustainable world, ”added Eniya before handing the interview over to Miró.
Before publishing their collaboration with the Electronics Center, ESSENCE spoke to Miró about the inspiration behind watch strap aesthetics, how she maintains her own wellness routine, and her latest Eternal Earth Day initiative.
ESSENCE: How did the collaboration come about and what were your first feelings when you were offered this opportunity?
Sami Miró: Samsung approached me about this collaboration, which I’m really looking forward to, developing three dial designs and five watch straps. With my entire brand revolving around sustainability and the good of the planet, I was thrilled and impressed that a company as large as Samsung is taking these amazing steps to focus its business model on sustainability as well. I love the fact that they were interested in working with a smaller niche brand like Sami Miro Vintage. One of my favorite things is the materials we use for the watch straps. The primary consists of a recycled apple peel that is huge. These mimic the beauty of sustainably produced leather and we also use other sustainable materials.
I was so happy that such a big brand is promoting the importance of sustainability and educating people. It is important to focus on, or be aware of, the fact that substances are really bad for the planet and the process that has to go through to make them is harmful. The fact that they are focusing on this initiative and that this is really the first watch-specific collection with a focus on sustainability for the Galaxy for the Planet initiative was huge for me.
ESSENCE: Tell us about the beauty and the Colors that all of you were inspired by including earth, nature and the essence of natural beauty?
Miró: The focus of the collection was on putting the importance of the planet in the foreground in the designs and really bringing in nature and mindfulness. The inspiration behind the collection was to create designs that evoke positive energy and positive emotions for the person who wants to do good for themselves and for the planet. Since you wear your watch every day, I wanted to have a positive reminder on your wrist of being good to yourself and the earth. In terms of design in particular, they are really fluid. As for the colors, they are said to bring happiness, good energy, a calming and liberating feeling and the beauty of nature and the essence of the wind.
ESSENTIAL: Tell us about your wellness routine and how you use the Galaxy Watch4 to prioritize your wellbeing, work, and daily activities.
Miró: The Galaxy Watch4 is my personal favorite and my lifestyle is on the move. It’s very work-oriented and also wellness-oriented. I can get away from work and stay super connected with whatever I need on my wrist when it comes to texts, emails and phone calls and everything. It also gives me the ability to seamlessly transition from work to a break for training, which I take at least five days a week. It’s great to use it for running and hot yoga, to stay connected and make sure I can focus on both work and my personal wellbeing.
I also love the meditation opportunities. What is new for me is the concentration on our meditation. This watch has the Calm app that I use to meditate before bed, which has really improved my sleeping habits. It was really amazing.
Miró: Until this year at Sami Miro Vintage, we had never done anything for Earth Day. Eternal Earth Day was real because we never fed ourselves into what Earth Day was. That’s our entire ethos about the brand and we celebrate the earth every day. For the customer, we wanted to remind them of the planet more often than just one day out of 365 days a year. We created a seasonal program where we would bring out each capsule collection for Eternal Earth Day. It’s a seasonal reminder that we should practice sustainability every day.
