MILWAUKEE – Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 24 points and 11 rebounds to help UCLA No. 4 defeat Marquette 67-56 on Saturday night in a game that was postponed for hours due to the Bruins’ flight problems.

UCLA (8-1) showed no obvious signs of rust in their first game since their 73-61 win over Colorado on December 1st. UCLA was scheduled to play in Washington on December 5th, but the Huskies had to give up on COVID-19 issues within their program.

Johnny Juzang and Tyger Campbell each had 12 points for UCLA, which took control early. Campbell also had eight assists and five rebounds.

Marquette’s Greg Elliott hit a career high of 22 points on the bench. Justin Lewis had 12 points and nine rebounds but missed all seven of his 3-point attempts. Darryl Morsell added 11 points for Marquette (8-3).

Marquette spent most of the first half misfiring out of 3-point range, which was particularly problematic as nine of Marquette’s first 11 field goal attempts were out of 3.

Towards the end of the first half, Marquette was 3 of 26 shoots down 33-10, but finished with an 11-2 run that included a trio of Gregg Elliott 3-pointers to close behind 35-21 in the locker room walk.

Marquette cut the lead on another Elliott 3-pointer to 47-36 at 18:58, but the Golden Eagles wouldn’t push the deficit into single digits until the last minute of the game.

Originally scheduled for 1:30 p.m., the game was postponed to seven hours later as the UCLA flight had to be rerouted to Denver on Friday due to a broken windshield. The Bruins flew out of Denver early Saturday morning
