Jonny Evans was made fit for today’s FA Cup final against Chelsea for Leicester City.
The middle half was kept out of the Foxes’ last two Premier League games against Newcastle United and Manchester United after he had struggled to build St. James’ Park.
However, his compatriot and manager Brendan Rodgers was confident on Thursday that Evans would get the nod, and it turned out he was next to Caglar Soyuncu and Wesley Fofana should start in a three-man defense.
« In my time at the club he was immense. If it is not available, it will be a great loss. We have other players but if Jonny is available and fit enough it will be a huge boost for us, « said Rodgers on Thursday.
Evans hopes to be the first Northern Ireland man to play in an FA Cup -Finals since Roy Carroll won in 2004 when the Fermanagh man came off the bench late at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff to play for Manchester United 3-0 beating Millwall.
The earlier and Current Northern Irish stars Tony Capaldi (Cardiff 2008), Alex Bruce (Hull 2014) and Craig Cathcart (Watford 2019) have all since lost in the finals, and Carroll himself started for United in 2005 when they were beaten on penalties by Arsenal.
