Perhaps all of these conversations about Michael Thomas leaving New Orleans were a little premature.
According to reports, Thomas ignored the Saints’ phone calls for three months during the off-season. That created a lot of tension because the team’s medical staff wanted Thomas to have an ankle surgery right after the playoffs, but he finally waited until June.
Earlier this week, Yahoo Sports insider Charles Robinson reported that Thomas had a productive meeting with Saints head coach Sean Payton to discuss their differences.
« Two sources familiar with the conversations said Payton and Thomas recently had a meeting to air about two ongoing Problems to Clear: Comments Payton made on his frustration with the timing of Thomas’ ankle surgery in the off-season; and a subsequent social media post from Thomas suggesting the Wideout is now at odds with the team, « said Robinson.
That’s not the only sign that Thomas and the Saints are trying to restore their relationship to improve. According to Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com, Thomas is expected to be on the sidelines for today’s preseason match between the Ravens and Saints.
A good sign…. Michael Thomas is expected to be on the sidelines tonight at the Saints’ opener against the Ravens in Baltimore.
While that doesn’t necessarily mean that everything is taken in New Orleans, the fact that Thomas is ready to Showing up for today’s preseason game should give fans some hope that things can be resolved in the future.
With Thomas’ contract still running for four years, the Saints will most likely do everything they can to make this relationship work.
