Championship leader Remy Gardner secured his third pole of the Moto2 season 2021 at the Red Bull Ring.

The Aussie set a best lap time of 1: 28.668 in the last moments of the session and is in a first-class position, to extend his World Championship lead tomorrow afternoon. It is his fifth pole in the intermediate class.

Ai Ogura achieved his best qualifying result of all time in second. The Japanese was at the top of the timesheets at times but will still be thrilled with being in the middle of the front row. Ogura is enjoying an impressive first Moto2 season with five top 7 results from the first nine races.

Marco Bezzecchi completed the front row despite suffering from technical problems throughout. The Italian has been linked to a possible move to MotoGP next year, with rumors circulating that both Petronas Yamaha and Valentino Rossi’s Ducati team are interested.

Raul Fernandez only finished fourth and today was easily stopped on his final flying lap. Prior to qualifying, it was confirmed that Fernandez will join the Tech3 KTM MotoGP team next year.

Fernandez will be supported on the second row by Aron Canet and Augusto Fernandez, while Sam Lowes will start from seventh on the grid. Lorenzo Dalla Porta, Somkiat Chantra and Marcel Schrotter complete the top 10.

Xavi Verge (11th) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (12th) barely missed a place in the top 10, while Thomas Lüthi at the Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team machine was 13th.

Jake Dixon qualified in 21st place and completed the seventh row behind Celestino Vietti and Joe Roberts. American rookie Cameron Beaubier qualified 24th on his first visit to the Red Bull Ring.

Deniz Öncü took his first pole position in the Moto3 class at the Red Bull Ring this afternoon.

Öncü drove in Austria just a few seconds before the end to the top of the timesheet and relegated Sergio Garcia to the top with a 1: 36.453. Garcia finishes second, but there’s a good chance he’ll see the medical center towards the end of the session after a bad fall.

Garcia suffered a highside at turn three and seemed to land heavily on his right leg. He had to be assisted by marshals as he got off his bike. Romano Fenati completes the first row and after the second qualifying in Assen secures the start in the first row in a row.

Jeremy Alcoba leads the second row in front of championship leaders Pedro Acosta and Izan Guevara, while Dennis Foggia from seventh place Race goes. Jaume Masia, Darryn Binder and Gabriel Rodrigo completed the top 10.

Niccolo Antonelli was only able to take 11th place after suffering his own highside in the last corner at the beginning of the session. The Italian appeared unharmed and was able to move away from the incident. John McPhee completes the fourth row in 12th place.

Riccardo Rossi, Tatsuki Suzuki and Ayumu Sasaki line up in row five, the latter falling on his first lap of Q2. Suzuki made it through Q1 earlier in the day.

Xavier Artigas was the best of the others in Q1 and missed a place in Q2 by 0.124 seconds and will start tomorrow’s race from 19th place on the grid. He is completed in row seven by Carlos Tatay and Ryusei Yamanaka.

Yuki Kunii, Lorenzo Fallon and Maximillian Kofler start from row eight, while Kaito Toba leads the ninth row. Moto3 newcomer David Salvador will be on the 26th place on the grid. Salvador, who drives for the Rivacold Snipers team, is a podium finisher in the CEV Moto3 Championship and finished sixth overall last season, while finishing fourth in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2019. Adrian Fernandez and Andi Farid Izdihar complete the field.
