CM – MotoGP: Tech3 KTM signs Remy Gardner for the 2022 season

Remy Gardner will move to MotoGP next season after signing with Tech3 KTM Factory Racing.

Remy Gardner will make his MotoGP debut next season after signing for the Tech3 KTM team.

Gardner is the current Moto2 championship leader and has had a fantastic start to life in the Red Bull KTM Ajo team laid down. The Aussie has one win and five podiums from the first six races of the 2021 season.

The 23-year-old, who will have a factory RC16 in 2022, is following in the footsteps of Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder, both of whom are under The wing of the influential team principal Aki Ajo was brought.

« I am very pleased that KTM has given me this opportunity, » said Gardner. “For me a dream has come true and what we have worked for up to now. It’s an incredible opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get a bike ride.

« I just want to thank KTM for believing in me. Right now we have to focus heavily on getting to 2021 I’d also like to thank everyone who helped me achieve MotoGP. We’re just getting started. « 

Gardner made his Grand Prix debut at Misano in 2014 on a KTM Moto3 machine. The following year he spent a full season in the lightweight class before moving up to Moto2 in 2016. Gardner spent two years with Tech3’s Moto2 team (2017-2018) and achieved the best result in fifth in Valencia.

He made his first Moto2 podium at the 2019 Argentina Grand Prix, while he was on the SAG Racing Team drove. Three more podiums and a first win in Portimao would follow in the shortened 2020 season.

Remy is the son of 1987 500cc World Champion, Wayne Gardner. Wayne took 18 wins and 52 podiums during his time in the premier class and competed against Wayne Rainey, Kevin Schwantz and Eddie Lawson.

It is not yet known which rider Remy Gardner will make room for on the Tech3 KTM team. Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecouna are currently driving for the Poncharal team.

Gardner’s Moto2 team-mate Raul Fernandez, who is only six points behind Gardner in the overall standings, was also connected to Tech3 after his sensational start in Moto2 brought.
