CM – NASA briefing on early Perseverance Mars rover science takes place on Wednesday

NASA has announced that it will hold a briefing next week on early scientific discoveries of the Perseverance Mars rover. The virtual media briefing will take place on Wednesday, July 21 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. At the briefing, NASA will discuss early scientific results from the Perseverance Mars Rover, among other things.

One of the other key topics covered is NASA’s preparations to collect the first Martian samples that Perseverance collected for return to Earth for future studies. There are experiments and science that can be done here on Earth on the rocks that are impossible on Mars. One of the main goals of studying Mars is to find out whether the planet has had previous life or is currently harboring any type of life.

The briefing will take place at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, where the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover mission is administered. Anyone can tune in and listen to the briefing, which will be broadcast on NASA television, the NASA app, and the NASA website. The briefing will also be streamed live on social media platforms including the JPL YouTube and Facebook pages.

The briefing will also include a question-and-answer session for the media and the general public. The questions will be selected during the briefing via social media using the hashtag #AskNASA. Perseverance landed on the Red Planet on February 18, 2021 and began the scientific phase of its mission on June 1.
