Penguins goalkeeper Casey DeSmith will kick off Saturday’s home game against the Anaheim Ducks at the PPG Paints Arena .
In five games this season, DeSmith has a 1-3-1 record along with 3.64 goals against the average and a savings rate of 0.885.
DeSmith scored his first win of the season in a 6-1 away win over the Seattle Kraken on Monday. He made 28 saves in 29 shots in that competition.
« That gives him a big confidence boost, » said Penguins trainer Mike Sullivan on Saturday via video conference. “We had a strong feeling that his game was going in the right direction. In practice, he works very hard. That was an important start for Casey in Seattle. He had a really strong game for us. He made a couple of big saves there in the middle of the game so we could keep the lead. My hope is that he can build on that. I know he feels good about this game. It definitely gives him a boost in confidence to move forward. »
• After the 4-2 away win on Friday against the Washington Capitals on Friday, the Penguins no longer had a morning kate on Saturday.
• The Penguins’ strikers Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, goalkeeper Tristan Jarry and defender Kris Letang were selected for the NHL All-Star Game. Fans can vote for the captains of the four divisions of the league, with one player from each division being selected through this process.
