The US remarks come three days before Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s visit to the White House (file).

The US on Tuesday called for an end to violence in Afghanistan and made Taliban insurgents for much of it responsible for the bloodshed three days before President Ashraf Ghani’s visit to the White House.

« We urge the sides to start serious negotiations setting a political roadmap for the future of Afghanistan, » the State Department spokesman said. Ned Price, told reporters.

« We continue to call for an end to the ongoing violence, mainly driven by the Taliban, » Price said.

The Taliban captured Afghanistan’s main border crossing with Tajikistan on Tuesday. Security forces left their posts and some fled across the border.

The capture of the far north of Shir Khan Bandar was the Taliban’s most significant win since the United States began the final phase of its troop withdrawal in May when the peace talks between the United States Insurgents and Kabul were bogged down.

« We continue to believe that a negotiated solution between the Islamic Republic and the Taliban is the only way to end the 40-year war and bring the Afghans the peace they are looking for », Price added.

The Taliban have stepped up their attacks since US forces withdrew with a rapidly advancing withdrawal.

But the Pentagon indicated on Monday that it could be deliberately slowed down to cope with the attacks Counter insurgents, although the 9/11 target date for the withdrawal to be completed remains sacred.

On Friday, President Joe Biden will meet with Ghani and with Abdullah Abdullah meeting, who oversees the government side in peace talks with the Taliban.
