CM – Richard’s first Briton to win world mountain bike championships

Evie Richards won her first title at the mountain bike world championship in the women’s cross-country race, while Nino Schurter won a ninth rainbow jersey with his victory in the men’s in Val di Sole, Italy.

The 24- year old Richards caught and distanced herself early in the race from defending champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot from France and maintained this lead as the first British female driver to win a world title in this discipline.

In the men’s category, Schurter led a Swiss double victory after an exciting final round and won his ninth world title.

The 35-year-old held off a violent attack from Mathias Flückiger before he did overtook his compatriot and drove to a sprint victory.

The Austrians Mona Mitterwallner and Laura Stigger led the table in the cross-country event of the U23 women, while Caroline Bohe from Denmark won bronze.
