What is Rockstar bringing to market this week? No, it’s not Grand Theft Auto V on any other platform. It’s not another nightclub within GTA Online either, but that’s warmer. Rockstar actually teamed up with CircoLoco to launch CircoLoco Records. Yes, in real life, not in GTA. The label’s first Compliation album, Monday Dreamin, will be released on July 9th, but they have already released the album’s first track.
The first track of Monday Dreamin ‘is already available. « Lumartes » by Seth Troxler can be seen in the label announcement video below. CircoLoco says the first of four weekly EPs will debut next Friday, June 4th, leading to the full compilation date in July.
« CircoLoco Records brings together well-known names from the world of GTA Online and the past and future of CircoLoco in a brand new way, supporting dance music culture in one of the toughest periods ever for clubs and club culture, » they say.
As Rockstar adds in the announcement, music is routinely a pretty large part of their games, « from advocating underground artists and scenes in our titles to the carefully curated radio stations in the Grand Theft Auto series ».
Late last year they added The Music Locker Club to GTA Online, which included music sets from real artists, some of whom are also involved in this first CircoLoco record.
CircoLoco records also say that they « amalgamating the physical and digital worlds of entertainment to expand our efforts to bring underground dance music culture to a wider audience ».
Presumably, this means more connections with real-world artists to Rockstars Clubrooms in GTA Online.
No complaints here about exposure to new music. I’m willing to bet that almost anyone who’s spent time driving around in GTAV or GTA Online tied themselves to at least one catchy tune who then introduced them to an artist they wouldn’t otherwise have known. Mine is « Old Love / New Love » by Twin Shadow, which plays on Radio Mirror Park. How about you?
