MALE: The championship of the South Asian Football Association (SAFF) 2021 has not yet gone according to plan for India. Two disappointing draws against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have put the Blue Tigers in fourth place in the table, putting them in a precarious position to qualify for the final of the SAFF Championship.

To have a chance, India has to keep both of them Winning games, starting with the game against Nepal on Sunday, which will serve as a do-or-die test for the Blue Tigers.

While India only got two points in the first two games, Nepal is at the Top of the SAFF Championship points table after scoring six points after beating hosts Maldives and Sri Lanka. A point or more against India would increase Nepal’s chances of reaching the finals and the leaders could change their approach on the field in return. But before a crucial clash, Igor Stimac asked his team to focus on themselves, even though Nepal is in a favorable position.

« They may have a different approach because they have six points so they can in this one Calculate the game, aim for a point or play counter-football, which could be dangerous for us, « said Stimac at the press conference before the game.

» We don’t know what they’ll decide, but we’re not worried about that. We have to do our job right from the start. «

Both teams will be better prepared for the clash after two friendlies in September. India were held in a 1-1 draw before winning the last game 2-1.

Although the form has favored Nepal at the tournament so far, Stimac was optimistic about his team’s chances of making it to the final concerns.

« Everything is still open (regarding qualifying), » he said. « We came here to win the tournament and I don’t know how many points we’re going to get. Even with six points, there is still a chance we could reach the final. But let’s not think about the math. We have to do everything.  » To earn good results on the pitch that put us in a comfortable position. «
