CM – Silent Night is not a Jewish film – Solzy at the Movies

With a title like Silent Night you know that this film is not about a Jewish family get-together, because such get-togethers are all BUT.

With a title like Silent Night you know that this film is not about a Jewish family reunion, because such reunions are anything but ABER.eval (ez_write_tag ([[580,400], ‘solzyatthemovies_com-medrectangle-3’ , ‘ezslot_0’, 108, ‘0’, ‘0’]));

Camille Griffin’s film sees a poisonous cloud on the way to Great Britain. Here a group of friends is celebrating their last night on earth. I’m not sure if partying is the best idea, but oh well. Two of them are the party hosts Nell (Keira Knightley) and Simon (Matthew Goode). Nell and Simon are the parents of Art (Roman Griffin Davis), Hardy and Thomas. You invite the upper class Tony (Rufus Jones) and Sandra (Annabelle Wallis), the lesbian friends Bella (Lucy Punch) and Alex (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) and finally the doctor friend James (Ṣọpé Dìrísù) and his partner Sophie (Lily-Rose Depp ). As soon as Sandra brings up spending on Kitty’s (Davida McKenzie) college fund, all kinds of comedies ensue. When the world ends, it’s not like your daughter needs it!

One of the main cast is Jojo Rabbit breakout star Roman Griffin Davis. In the perfect cast for this film, his siblings Hardy and Gilby play the leading roles of his film siblings Hardy and Thomas. I should point out that it’s a family affair as her mother is none other than Silent Night writer and director Camille Griffin. This is her first feature film and, given the pandemic, there is no better way than directing your own family! Even though Griffin’s husband is a cameraman, he doesn’t seem to have worked on the film in that capacity.

There is a certain irony in casting Keira Knightley in this film. She previously starred in Lorene Scafaria’s Finding a Friend for the End of the World, which – you guessed it – is about the end of the world. Where this movie is about an asteroid, this movie sees the destruction of mankind in a different way.

This is one of those movies where you can’t postpone the inevitable. A poisonous cloud settles on the UK. We know no one will come out alive in this movie. Not in the sense that this is a horror movie, but in the sense that humanity is coming to an end. Listen, this is not a horror movie. It’s more of a dark comedy, although there is a scene with a dead family in a car and it’s the most haunting scene in the film. Until the last few minutes, of course. If you can’t handle the dead, then don’t look at it. What I can tell you is that even though I was Jewish, the synopsis was enough to convince me that filmmaker Camille Griffin was making this film laugh. There are no jump scares. I would have turned the film off immediately!

Silent Night is fine for a first-time feature film, but audiences may not like the downfall during a pandemic.
