BURGOS, Spain – Two-time defending champion Primoz Roglic won the opening stage of the Spanish Vuelta on Saturday.
Roglic was fastest on the short first stage in the city of Burgos and finished the 7.1 kilometer time trial in 8th place Minutes and 32 seconds.
Alex Aranburu finished second, six seconds behind, and Jan Tratnik was another two seconds behind in third.
Roglic was also on the way to his second Vuelta title with a win in 2020 started in a row.
The second stage on Sunday leads the drivers through a flat 166-kilometer route that should benefit the sprinters.
