CM – « Take Action »: Southeast Qld in the Impact Zone of « Explosive Storms »

« Explosive storms » are forecast for a vast stretch of Queensland spanning nearly 3,000 km.

A severe storm warning is currently active in parts of the Somerset, Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley municipal areas.

Storms with noxious winds, large hailstones, and heavy rains that can cause flash floods are moving east.

It is predicted to hit Toowoomba at 2:10 p.m. and the area northwest of Esk at 2:40 p.m. .

The Bureau of Meteorology calls on people in the « impact zones ». to take action to stay safe.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning also applies to parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields counties, Wide Bay and Burnett, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and the Southeast Coast

The Bureau of Meteorology warns residents of Bamaga at the tip of the state to the southern border to prepare for thunderstorms that could potentially cause hail, severe falls and noxious winds.

Mr Saunders said severe storms were » essentially guaranteed « . in southeast Queensland and northeast NSW on Wednesday with further damaging winds, hail and flash floods.

Heavy storms with heavy rain and hailstones the size of a golf ball shattered the southeast corner on Tuesday evening. More are expected to continue on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, overnight rains peaked at 92 mm north of Toowoomba in Mt. Mowbullan and 79 mm in Forest Hill west of Ipswich.

The southern end of the state felt the brunt of the rain, being gold Coast was 21mm overnight and Wynnum south of Brisbane was 50mm.
