This year’s Geoffrication will continue with the Gamescom Opening Night Live at the end of this month. For the second time in a row, the opening show of the event, which normally takes place in Cologne, will be broadcast directly to your home screens and hosted by Geoff Keighley. The man himself has just announced the times and the length of the show for the next Showcase-y-Event and it is sure to be a long one. Pack a snack when you tune in later this month.
Keighley has emerged to refer to the Opening Night Live Show as « a two-hour live showcase » where we will « take a fresh look at this holiday’s biggest video games coming up and what lies behind … » says he. We can pretty well rest assured that this means a lot more trailers and announcements, and all like Keighlevens customary.
What exactly we will see for now is a guess. We’ll most likely get some pointers ahead in the form of shy tweets from the developers that fans might want to see. Sometimes Geoff gives little hints himself. Or other people come up with small leaks like « Keighley has it ». Be careful when you are terribly ready to take a look at your marketing gifts.
What other gimmicks will there be this time? Certainly Geoff can’t reveal his face twice in a year. He can’t bring together a long-forgotten 90s band either. In case you’re curious, here’s every ONL Gamescom trailer from last summer. Oh right, Dragon Age 4 was there. Don’t mind if I cry in the corner.
You can now officially note the time in your calendar. The Gamescom Opening Night Live will take place on Wednesday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. BST (11:00 a.m. PDT).
As for the rest of Gamescom, they are also bringing back the online indie arena booth, among other things. I wandered around the little browser MMO last summer and, to be honest, it was pretty neat!
