Sydney: World number one Ashleigh Barty has confirmed that she will compete in the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday and lead an 11-person Australian tennis team for the Games, including arsonist Nick Kyrgios.
Barty’s announcement comes just a day after four-time gold medalist Serena Williams announced she would skip the games that will be out without Spanish great Rafael Nadal.
2019 French Open winner Barty, 25, said that she wanted to compete in both singles and doubles at the Games, adding, « I can’t wait to be a part of it ».
« Taking part in the Olympics is always a dream when you’re young Aiming at children, « she said.

World number 15 Alex de Minaur is the top ranked Australian, with the volatile Kyrgios probably one of the most prominent male players in the draw despite his modest ranking of 60.In contrast to veteran Stosur, Barty De Minaur give and Kyrgios made her Olympic debut in Tokyo.
« It is very special to be able to represent your country at one Olympiad, let alone at five, » said Stosur, who also participated in Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016 participated.
Stosur and Barty are complemented by Ajla Tomljanovic in women’s singles, with Barty working with Storm Sanders in women’s doubles and Stosur with Ellen Perez.
John Millman and James Duckworth join Kyrgios and De Minaur last week won the Eastbourne International, in men’s singles.
Millman will partner with Luke Saville and John Peers will play with De Minaur in men’s doubles.
