Rio de Janeiro: Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar, the world’s most expensive footballer, won’t play for Brazil at the Tokyo Olympics, but veteran Daniel Alves announced the squad on Thursday.
Neymar’s PSG team-mate Marquinhos, who also won a gold medal in Rio five years ago, is another name not on coach Andre Jardine’s list.
Former Barcelona star Alves, now at Sao Paulo, missed the ongoing Copa America with a knee injury.
Jardine hopes his veteran defender is fit in time to face defeated 2016 finalists Germany on July 22nd.
Two French players competing in Japan are Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon and Marseilles newcomer Gerson.
