SEOUL: Two diplomats from the Pakistani Embassy in South Korea were caught shoplifting from a store in Seoul, police said on Saturday.
The Yongsan Police Station said the two were worth stealing items of 11,000 won ($ 10) and 1,900 won ($ 1.70) in the same store in Itaewon, Yongsan District, on various dates, the Korea Times reported The other stole a hat worth 11,000 won (US $ 10) on February 23.
After the hat was stolen, an employee of the store filed a police report shortly thereafter , and law enforcement agencies identified the suspect through CCTV footage as a 35-year-old diplomat from the Pakistani embassy, the Korea Times reported.
Under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, diplomats and their family members can according to certain laws of their host country avoid arrest, imprisonment or prosecution.
