HOOVER, Ala. The first late-night game of the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament was a lot of drama – and quite a bit of frustration for Ole Miss.
Dominic Keegan hit an RBI walk-through single when Vanderbilt scored twice in the ninth inning and Ole Miss in the early Defeated 5: 4 on Thursday morning.
Vanderbilt (40-13) advanced to the winners’ class and met Arkansas on Thursday at 8 p.m. Ole Miss (39-18) has to turn around and play Georgia in an elimination game at 1 p.m.
Tim Elko hit a solo home run in the eighth inning – his second of the game – to defeat Ole Miss 4-3 in Bring leadership. Elko scored a triple home run in the sixth inning. He finished the 3v4 race with four RBIs.
However, Vanderbilt recovered in ninth place. A single, a walk and another single from Isaiah Thomas brought the bond run. After a wild pitch, Keegan flicked his bat in a low and distant place and sent the ball into right field to get Enrique Bradfield Jr. with the winning run.
« I think I was just trying at the start of the game to to much to do. I’m trying to be someone I’m not, « Keegan told the SEC network after the game. “On my fourth stroke, I threw that ball onto the second base and felt better from then on. On that final stroke, all I had to do was get the ball into play. “
Tate Kolwyck had two hits and two RBIs for Vanderbilt, and Thomas was 2v5 with an RBI.
Vanderbilt starter Christian Little allowed three hits and a run to hit seven in 5 1/3 innings , but ended with no decision. Ole miss pitcher Derek Diamond had a similarly strong excursion, walking 5 1/3 innings and allowing two runs with four hits. Diamond knocked out eight batters and walked two.
