WA’s mask mandate ends at 6 p.m. after the state did not register any new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 on Friday.

In future, mask requirements will only apply in high-risk environments such as hospitals and geriatric care facilities as well as in public transportation and in ridesharing.

WA has dealt with a Delta Variation outbreak that has grown to 21 cases, including the Swell case, a backpacker who entered WA from Queensland just before stricter border rules on arrivals from the Sunshine State.

The state has also sweated over test results for the close contacts of a Hyatt hotel quarantine security guard who may have the more transferable variant of Omicron.

A mandate to wear masks since the delta cluster became known on 23.
