The year of the Sonic celebration continues with more gifts and cameos and remasters for the blue blur. If your idea of a hip 30th celebration is more of a lawn concert than an Olympic affiliation, there is one of these too. For today’s official birthday, Sega has put together a large virtual orchestral concert for the 30th anniversary full of Sonic melodies with some other special musical guest appearances. You can see it live below when it starts at 8:00 p.m. BST.
Sega says the Sonic Symphony event will feature « special performances by legendary Sonic rock stars Crush 40, composer and DJ Tomoya Ohtani, and others ». You can see it on the official Sonic YouTube and Twitch channels when it goes live from 8:00 p.m. BST (12:00 p.m. PDT).
We have the full concert video here so you can watch it when it’s live. In the meantime, here is the late May Sonic Central event which Sega made many other hedgehog reveals to celebrate the anniversary.
I can imagine that the hedgehog heads out there have favorites that they hope to hear as they tune in to the concert. Perhaps favorite songs from Crush 40 and Tomoya Ohtani? Or maybe just a nice orchestral version of Green Hills Zone, right? My own favorite Sonic bop is still Escape From The City from Sonic Adventure 2. I’m not sure this will get into the rotation, but hey, I’ll listen to find out.
If you haven’t kept up with all of this year’s Sonic reveals and game bindings and everything, here are some for you. During their Sonic Central in May, Sega announced the remaster Sonic Colors: Ultimate, due out in September. They also teased a new, unnamed Sonic game due out in 2022. Yes, also on the PC. Oh, and Sonic just sprinted into Minecraft too. Why not?
