CM – West Ham identifies Hee-Chan as a cheaper alternative to Tammy Abraham but faces the Crystal Palace competition for the striker

West Ham will fight for that cheaper target for Chelsea star Tammy Abraham in the Premier League ...

According to Mike McGrath’s latest transfer booklet for the Telegraph (subscription required), West Ham United and Crystal Palace are planning a summer move for RB Leipzig ace Hwang Hee-Chan.

McGrath notes that Hee-chan as a Player with « good value » is seen on the transfer market, as a price of 10 million GBP shows.

Hee-Chan impressed with Red Bull Salzburg in the 19/20 season alongside Erling Haaland and Takumi Minamino with three goals and five assists in the group stage of the Champions League. Four of these contributions came against Liverpool and Napoli.

These appearances earned the South Korean ace a move to RB Leipzig last summer, although the 25-year-old played a rather minor role in a debut campaign in Germany that proved to be difficult.

McGrath adds that Hee-Chan is an « affordable destination » for West Ham, unlike Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, for whom David Moyes has publicly ruled out a move if the £ 40m valuation persists .

Hwang Hee-Chan didn’t play a major role in his debut season at RB Leipzig.

The Hammers desperately need a striker in the summer window, they were already worn out upstairs and then sold the flop to Sebastien Haller without securing a replacement in January.

Hee-Chan has three goals this season and made two assists for Leipzig, but they all made it to the German Cup. The versatile striker has only started one Bundesliga game so far.

£ 10million doesn’t seem like a bad fee for someone who has shown promising against high-profile opponents in recent years, but West Ham have to compete with Crystal Palace for Hwang.

It also remains to be seen whether Hee-chan would even be open to moving. The attacker, nicknamed « Bulle », will be led by his former Salzburg boss from summer, as company man Jesse Marsch will replace Julian Nagelsmann, who will take the reins from Hansi Flick at FC Bayern Munich.
