CM – West Indies vs Pakistan: Windies win wicket first test as visitors lose discipline and composure – Firstcricket News, Firstpost

Three catches were missed so Kemar Roach and last man Jayden Seales could get their team to the goal with a last wicket partnership of 17.

West Indies clinched a vibrant one-wicket victory over Pakistan on Sunday as visitors self-destructed in the final session of the fourth day as they were on their way, the first test of the two-match series at Sabina Park.

Shaheen Shah Afridi defended a modest goal of 168 after being sacked for 103 in the morning session, and led the attack at four for 50, putting the home side at 114 for tea seven reduced, with only wicketkeeper batsman Joshua da Silva and the tail-hitters left.

However, in scenes reminiscent of a similar one-wicket loss in the crucial Test of the 2000 Series in Antigua, the Pakistanis lost their bowling discipline and the serenity of the field.

Three catches were missed out so Kemar Roach and last man Jayden Seales could get their team to the finish with a last wicket partnership of 17.

Roach, who was suspended twice, hit Hasan Ali’s winning streak and went undefeated at 30 .

Ironically, it was Hasan who missed a direct catch on the deep square leg ahead of Shaheen, which allowed Roach to finish the job with a cheering Seales.

Seales was eight for his matchhaul Named Man of the Game for 125, including five for 55 in the second innings.

For the fast bowler who’s less than a month before his 20 West Indies.

« I just decided to step it up to go for step, run by run, « said one Roach relieved minutes after an unlikely task when he joined da Silva after tea at the beginning of the game.

« This is by far the most important innings I’ve ever played and I also commend Jayden for having him Stuck together with me in the end and for his five-wicket haul today because he’s someone very special as a young fast bowler. «

Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam did well to hide his disappointment but couldn’t avoid to point out the obviously costly mistakes when it came down to it.

« That’s the beauty of test cricket. Our bowlers were really good, especially Shaheen and Abbas, « said the skipper, omitting to mention the three wickets Hasan took in the battle for victory.

An upside-down day began with that Pakistan lost its last five wickets for 35 runs to leave the West Indies with a seemingly tricky goal.

Regardless of Seales’ success with the ball, Babar’s key wicket was claimed by Kyle Mayers.

The all-rounder had little else to cheer on the day before the dramatic win as he endured the humiliation of a « couple » with West Indian thugs’ weaknesses again exposed on either side of a 68-man fourth wicket partnership between Jermaine Blackwood and Roston Chase .

Blackwood topped the score at 55 and Chase hit 22, his late afternoon sacking at Faheem Ashraf once again tipped the balance of the competition in that direction Pakistan’s.

Ironically, given the spate of mistakes in the field that was to follow in the final session, tourists claimed four wickets in the post-lunch period, three of which were captured by Imran Butt on the second slip.

His efforts to fire Blackwood were particularly impressive, underscoring his confidence and steadfast hand in jumping against first opening partner Abid Ali for a chance.

Pakistan’s missed opportunities were a disservice to Shaheen’s outstanding performance who finished the game with eight wickets.

He put the West Indies in the background at the start of the chase with the wickets of Kieran Powell, Captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Nkrumah Bonner and returned at the last session to answer da Silva and break a stubborn partnership with Roach.

But it was all in vain because Pakistan was to blame while They will look to the second and final test in the same place starting Friday.
