Diablo IV: A Mega-Hit for Blizzard
Diablo IV, the long-awaited entry in Blizzard’s classic action-RPG series, is almost here. After several exciting beta weekends, the game is heading into a short Early Access period prior to its June 5th/6th launch next Tuesday. This game is much darker and feels more true to the series’ grimdark fantasy roots. It also introduces horseback riding. Players play as one of five classes (so far, more will be added): Necromancer, Rogue, Sorceress, Barbarian, and Druid. The game is being treated as a « live-service » title, with content releasing across seasons including new classes, locations, and even a battle pass.
Diablo IV Launches with Nearly-Perfect Launch
Blizzard has launched the long-awaited sequel to 2012’s Diablo III at last! The game is reviewing quite well with critics. Currently, it’s rated 88/100 on review aggregation site Metacritic on PC. It has a 92/100 on Xbox Series X and an 87/100 on PS5. Diablo IV has « miraculously » bucked the trend of big online games launching badly. Perhaps desperate to avoid the grim Error 37 days of Diablo III, or even the frustrations around Overwatch 2, Blizzard managed to pull off a nearly-perfect launch, at least on PC. On PS5, gamers faced the dread « Unable to find a valid license for Diablo IV (Code 315306) error. » This meant that you had purchased the game, but on the PlayStation side of things, it looked like you didn’t. The fix for this? Buy some in-game currency (Platinum) in the PlayStation Store and you’ll be able to play.
Diablo IV is shaping up to be a mega-hit for Blizzard and one of the biggest game launches of 2023. The game is now live and has launched with a nearly-perfect launch, at least on PC. The game is fully cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms, though you’re required to have a Battle.net account. The game is being treated as a « live-service » title, with content releasing across seasons including new classes, locations, and even a battle pass. Overall, Diablo IV is a must-play for fans of the series and newcomers alike.
