Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka ruled out of World Cup with quad injury
Dasun Shanaka, the hard-hitting all-rounder for Sri Lanka, has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a quad injury. Scans have revealed that Shanaka will be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks. In his absence, Sri Lanka have opted to replace him with fellow all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne, who has been travelling with the team as their reserve player. Karunaratne could potentially play in Sri Lanka’s next match against Australia.
Karunaratne to step up in Shanaka’s absence
Chamika Karunaratne, who hasn’t played for Sri Lanka since April, will have the opportunity to step up in Dasun Shanaka’s absence. The 27-year-old all-rounder has made more than 60 appearances for his country in all three formats. In-form batter Kusal Mendis, who is the vice-captain of Sri Lanka’s squad, is expected to take on the captaincy role in Shanaka’s absence.
As Sri Lanka prepares for their upcoming match against Australia, the team will have to adjust their lineup due to Shanaka’s injury. However, with the inclusion of Karunaratne and the leadership of Mendis, Sri Lanka remains hopeful for a strong performance in the World Cup.
