Jake Quickenden has opened up about his girlfriend Sophie Church’s ‘tough’ pregnancy as they expect their first child.
It’s incredibly exciting news after the pair suffered a devastating miscarriage when Sophie was six weeks pregnant last year.
Speaking to Lorraine about their ordeal, Jake said: ‘It was really hard, so hard for Soph as it’s her body.
‘It affected both of us and honestly it was really tough but luckily I tried to keep you positive and keep you going and here we are today.’
The couple are now excitedly preparing for the arrival of their baby and Jake admitted: ‘We’re great, can’t stop smiling,’ while Sophie added: ‘So far it hasn’t been too good, I felt really sick, but I’m feeling better now. We’ve only got five months now.’
Teasing what type of parenting style he’ll adopt, Jake joked: ‘I’m not going to grow up, I want to be a stupid fun dad…
Sophie is already mother to son Freddie from a previous relationship and has praised the way the six-year-old has handled the news.
‘At first we wrote him a little card and we wrote ‘from baby’, and he was really confused like, “who’s baby?”’ she revealed.
‘Now he’s so sweet, everyday he’s like is the baby OK? We say you have to be good as the baby can hear.’
Jake added: ‘I’ve kind of got used to being around Freddie, who is Sophie’s little boy, he’s like my best friend and he’s got two great parents.’
The couple have decided to wait to find out the baby’s gender as ‘it’ll be a nice surprise to find out on the day. We’ll just decorate the nursery white’.
‘Whatever, boy or girl, we’re going to be so happy and just learn on the job,’ he said.
Jake and Sophie are keeping their choice of baby names close to their chest but, rest assured, they won’t be thinking of the most quirky moniker for their new addition.
‘We have thought of names, we don’t want someone to steal them,’ the X Factor star said.
‘It’s not going to be like Apple Crumble, it’s going to be a normal-ish name. We’re going to stay away from Pineapple.’
