Paris Saint-Germain to Lift Ligue 1 Title for Ninth Time in 10 Years
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will lift the Ligue 1 title for the ninth time in 10 years after their game against Clermont Foot on Saturday. This will also be the last outing for Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos in PSG colors. Messi, who is set to leave PSG this summer after two years at the Parc des Princes, will play his final game for the club against Clermont Foot. During his time at PSG, Messi helped the team win two Ligue 1 titles and the French Super Cup. His record stands at 32 goals and 35 assists in 75 appearances in all competitions.
Sergio Ramos’ departure from PSG was confirmed on Friday after a two-year stint with the French side. The Spaniard joined PSG from Real Madrid in 2021 but struggled for game time under Mauricio Pochettino in his first season, making just 13 appearances in all competitions. However, Christophe Galtier chose to re-introduce Ramos into the starting XI at the start of this term alongside Marquinhos, and it is a partnership that has worked. After over 50 matches and five goals, Ramos will leave PSG after their final Ligue 1 game of the season against Clermont.
PSG’s Injury Woes Ahead of Clermont Foot Clash
PSG will welcome Clermont Foot to the Parc des Princes on Saturday, but they will be without a number of key players. Neymar, who has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle and Manchester United, has an ankle problem, while Marquinhos is nursing a groin injury. Nuno Mendes, Nordi Mukiele, and Hugo Ekitike all have hamstring strains, and Presnel Kimpembe is continuing his recovery from an Achilles injury. Meanwhile, Sergio Rico is currently still in the hospital in a serious but stable condition after colliding with a horse last Sunday morning.
Christophe Galtier, PSG’s coach, said that all minds are turned toward Sergio Rico’s situation and his health. He added that there is a time for everything and that they will finish the league campaign before discussing next season. Galtier also mentioned that there will be questions about his future and the team’s guidelines for next season, but it’s the same everywhere for everyone.
