Daniel Suarez, driver for Trackhouse Racing, was involved in a controversial incident during the NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway. Suarez was in the top-five and in contention for the win when he was shoved off the course by Ross Chastain, his teammate, who had gotten into Alex Bowman. Suarez’s car collided with Martin Truex Jr.’s, causing both cars to lose numerous positions. After the race, Suarez knocked Chastain out of the way on the cool-down lap and slammed into the back of Bowman’s car several times. NASCAR is investigating Suarez’s actions on pit road, and penalties may be imposed.

Intentionally damaging another vehicle on pit road can result in a loss of 25 to 50 driver and/or team owner points and/or a $50,000 to $100,000 fine. Bowman, who finished third in the race, explained that he had the corner made and was only inside of Suarez to protect himself from Chastain. He also expressed his respect for Suarez and tried to explain that he was shoved into the situation. Despite the incident, Bowman finished third, Chastain fourth, and Suarez was relegated to a 27th-place finish.

This incident highlights the intense competition and rivalries that exist in NASCAR. While drivers are teammates, they are also competing against each other for wins and points. The investigation by NASCAR shows that the sport takes safety and fair play seriously and will not tolerate intentional damage to other vehicles on pit road.
