Taylor Swift, the US singer-songwriter, is reportedly in a new relationship with Matty Healy, the lead singer of British band The 1975. The couple first dated briefly almost a decade ago, but the timing was not right. They have been in touch over the past few weeks, and Healy is said to be flying to Nashville to support Swift on the next leg of her tour. The couple is said to be “massively proud and excited” about the relationship and wants to “own” it, unlike Swift’s previous relationships, which were kept out of the spotlight.
Swift’s fans have been speculating about the relationship for some time, and Healy has hinted at it in the past. In January, Swift made a surprise appearance on stage at London’s O2 during the first night of The 1975’s sell-out At Their Very Best tour. She performed two tracks, The City and Anti-Hero, during which Healy referred to her as “the Queen”. Eagle-eyed fans also noticed that Swift was wearing a 1975 T-shirt during one of their gigs in 2014, when they first dated briefly.
Swift’s previous relationships include actor Joe Alwyn, Harry Styles, Calvin Harris, and Tom Hiddleston. She is renowned for writing songs about her acrimonious break-ups. Healy split from singer-songwriter FKA Twigs last June and was linked to Canadian model Charlotte Briar d’Alessio in December.
The couple is said to be well-equipped to handle the attention that their relationship will attract, given their fame and experience of being dragged through the ringer on a global scale. Swift is the planet’s highest-paid female musician, with over 120 million records sold worldwide and 257 million followers on Instagram. Healy is a household name in the US, where his band is hugely popular.
