The voices are there and the Laksa lovers have spoken – and Chok’s Place took first place with the coveted’ Golden Bowl ‘. at the Darwin International Laksa Festival 2020 for the second time in a row.

The dish was crowned the cream of the harvest by 34 candidates. This year’s Laksa Ninjas had the tricky task of narrowing the competition to the top ten before a final blind tasting panel led by Darwin’s Jimmy Shu sealed the Golden Bowl award for Chok’s Place again.

The month-long festival ended Sunday afternoon with thousands of Chung Wah Society attendees in Darwin’s CBD to celebrate the iconic Territory Dish – and many other wonderful creations inspired by it.

A highlight for Territoryians was the Laksa Chicken Schnitty from the Berry Springs Tavern, which was named People’s Choice for Best by Laksa Dish. Locals also gave more than 1. 300 votes, with Marys leading the Parap Markets at People’s Choice for Best Laksa.

In a brand new 2020 award, ten Territories were promoted to « Laksa Legends » during the month for eating 20 or more Lakas.

The month-long festival has proven to be a driving force behind increasing foot traffic to local eateries and eateries at a time that is traditionally quiet for the hospitality industry.

« Congratulations to Chok’s Place – back to back golden bowls and ultimate boasting rights as the best laksa in the world.

« To the other winners and competitors – thank you for hosting a feast for the senses and thanks to Territorians for helping local businesses along the way.

« Our government has thrown the sink in helping small businesses during the pandemic, and we will continue to do so to ensure we are the comeback capital of Australia. ”
