Derrys Daryl Gurney was tortured in his search for the semi-finals of the William Hill World Darts Championships on Friday night.
Gurney had his chances against Gerwyn Price at Alexandra Palace in both the fifth and sixth sets, but some missed doubles turned out to be costly.
He came down 4-2 to force a leg with sudden death but despite having the first chance to win the match he didn’t get a shot and the Welshman showed a bottle to move forward.
« I bombed a couple of sets where I missed a lot of doubles. I was very lucky, « Price admitted.
« At 4-2 I had it in my pocket, but at four I had to pull it out of my pocket. I was against it. I certainly learned a great lesson tonight. I shouldn’t be complacent when I’m 4-2.
« It must have been nerve wracking for my wife and family to watch. Maybe I wanted it too badly, but I’m still in the tournament and will give it my all. «

Earlier in the day, two-time winner Gary Anderson made it to the last four after beating Dirk Van Duijvenbode from behind.
Anderson, the 2015 and 2016 champion, lost the opening set before moving up to a 5-1 victory averaging 101. 07.
The Scot prepared a meeting of the last four with the winner of the Michael Van Gerwen-Dave Chisnall competition on Friday evening.
Anderson told Sky Sports: « That was good. First set Dirk started like him and I actually played okay – I went ‘here we go’. But I stayed tuned. «
When asked if we’d see the 2015 and 2016 Anderson, the 50-year-old said: « Not quite yet. It comes there.
He added, « If I didn’t win this title I would love to see Chizzy (Chisnall) win it. He’s been on the road for years and is a phenomenal darts player. «
In the other game of the afternoon session, Stephen Bunting defeated Krzysztof Ratajski 5: 3 and entered the semi-finals of the competition for the first time.
