The Berejiklian government’s landmark renewable energy bill has been passed in a concerted effort by the NSW House of Lords in a concerted effort by One Nation to block it after more than 30 hours of continuous debate.

NSW Secretary of Energy Matt Kean said the passage of the bill was a « historic victory for the people of NSW » and any MP who supported the bill « deserves credit ». .
In the country’s most ambitious energy plan, the government will help the private sector build $ 32 billion in renewable energy infrastructure by 2030 as NSW approaches the end of coal-fired power.
The plan also provides for $ 1. 5 billion lease payments go to landowners building new infrastructure on their properties, placing NSW in the top 10 for lowest industrial electricity prices in the OECD.
The government says its power infrastructure roadmap will cut the average small business electricity bill by about $ 440 per year, with savings of about $ 130 per year on the average household bill.
The coalition agreed on the plan and was also supported by Labor, the Greens and other crossbenchers from both parties.
« The passage of this bill shows what Australia’s energy policy can be like when our parties work together, » said Kean.

The plan will create 6,300 construction jobs and 2,800 ongoing jobs, mostly in the NSW area, and provide 12 gigawatts of renewable energy and two gigawatts of storage, mostly pumped hydro.
Mr. Latham warned that energy costs could increase by up to $ 400 a year.
